JAZZ LEGENDS CELEBRATIONS
Last year, Tisvilde Højskole celebrated some of jazz’s greatest pianists with special jazz events: CELEBRATING BILL EVANS, CELEBRATING OSCAR PETERSON & NHØP, and CELEBRATING ERROLL GARNER. These events paid tribute to their unique and timeless contributions to jazz.
This year, they continue their tributes focusing on the trumpet master, Miles Davis. As a bandleader and composer, Davis became one of the most influential figures in jazz after 1945, shaping its evolution over four decades.
The CELEBRATING events take place in the atmospheric setting of Tisvilde Højskole, a beautiful old fishing village on the North Coast. The experience includes:
- A delicious 3-course meal on the arrival day
- An inspiring jazz concert with musical anecdotes
- Fantastic film footage
- Overnight stay and breakfast
Miles Davis (1926-1991) was part of the younger bebop generation, initially influenced by Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. In 1949, at just 23, he led The Miles Davis Nonet, producing recordings that marked the birth of cool jazz. His landmark album “Kind of Blue” (1959) experimented with modal jazz. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he pioneered jazz’s electrification, incorporating rock music elements.
Davis performed in Denmark multiple times, including notable concerts with John Coltrane in 1960, and later with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and others. He received the Léonie Sonning Music Prize in 1984, inspiring Palle Mikkelborg’s “Aura,” which won a Grammy in 1990.
The tribute, “Clausen Kinda Cool,” is composed by pianist Thomas Clausen and features:
- Thomas Clausen (piano, keyboard)
- Anders Malta (trumpet, flugelhorn)
- Fredrik Lundin (tenor/soprano saxophone)
- Matthias Petri (double/electric bass)
- Jonas Johansen (drums)
Jazz expert Henrik Wolsgaard-Iversen will share personal stories about Miles Davis and rare film footage from his visits to Copenhagen.
CELEBRATING MILES DAVIS INCLUDES:
- 1-night stay in a single room (discount for shared double room)
- Full board with a festive dinner
- Afternoon coffee/tea/cake
- Film screening and anecdotes
- Welcome drink and 3-course dinner
- Concert
- Option to purchase drinks at favorable prices
Welcome to a unique jazz experience celebrating the legacy of Miles Davis.
